About The Course

This course contains topics related to the study of language, language functions, and social contexts, lexicogrammar, word groups, clauses, phonology, graphology, cohesion concepts, text structure, register, genre, sociolinguistics, and pragmatics. Language is considered a text that expresses meaning contextually which has three main functions which include ideational, interpersonal, and textual functions. In terms of social context, there are two social contexts in language, involving situational context and cultural context. Next, you will learn about lexicogrammar that is about word order as well as word and clause groups in sentences. Another topic being discussed in this course is phonology and graphology. Phonology is the study of the systems of sounds. Whereas graphology is the study of writing systems. The other topics are also explained comprehensively in this course.

Learning Outcome

Through this course, students are expected to have the ability to explain and analyze the basic concepts of introductory linguistics and technical language skills by paying attention to linguistic aspects. In addition, students are able to analyze and classify language, language functions, social contexts, lexicogrammatics, word groups and clauses, phonology, and graphology. knowledge about the concepts of cohesion, text structure, register, and genre. Students are also able to explain about the concepts of sociolinguistics and pragmatics.

This course has 3 credits and it consists of 8 sessions, also it includes formative and summative tests without assignments. Formative tests are in the form of quizzes and summative tests are in the form of multiple choice questions that can be taken at the end of the session and at the end of the lesson respectively. Quizzes are five-question tests to measure your understanding after each session. Summative tests, on the other hand, are tests created to measure your overall understanding. Quizzes have a 40% grade composition while summative test contributes 60% of the grade.

Widyasari, S.S., M.Hum. Enggar Mulyajati, S.Pd., M.Hum.

Widyasari, S.S., M.Hum. was graduated from Universitas Diponegoro majoring linguistics. Currently, she teaches some courses such as Pengantar Linguistik Umum, Bahasa Indonesia Merangkum, and Bahasa Indonesia Tatabahasa & Komposisi.

Enggar Mulyajati, S.Pd., M.Hum. got her master's degree in Universitas Indonesia in linguistics in 2017. She has research interests in Sociolinguistics, Semantics, and Pragmatics. Currently she teaches courses involving Writing and Semantics.
